I checked the turtle pen today, and i found Wolowitz out. i soaked him in some lukewarm water for a little while and put him back in his spot. The females did not come up that i know of. i hope they survive this winter.

LOL,Thanks! You can't really tell bc he was all covered in dry dirt. but after his soak he looked a lot better. He and Bernadette came to me pretty messed up. I don't care that they are not in the best shape, i still enjoy them.

I love a box turtle covered in dirt! Dried-up mud half way up the carapace from wading in muddy water, the top of the carapace still covered in loose dirt from that digging episode earlier, some bits of blackberries stuck to their face, dry grass and sand covering their legs. That's when a box turtle is happiest, and therefore, look their best.

i'm confident they'll do fine , you fed them well ..............since the 17th of February it's been 54 , 69 , 64 , 59 , 67 , 63 , 68 , and 77 , almost totally sunny , the ground temp has risen 9 degrees , we're now at 48 .... the air temp has moderated back into the 40's , doesn't appear it'll be climbing over the next week ........ nobodies moving here ..... the ponds are a different story , they all hit 60 degrees yesterday , the wood turtles are all awake , I saw one eating something yesterday .... the hatchling wood turtles all made it to yesterday , they look good and their weight feels good ....... 2 yrs ago the average daily temp in February was 14 degrees , this year has to be near 40 degrees ....................

It is crazy. I have no idea if this is good for them or bad for them, but in either case, just keeping my fingers crossed that late april i will find 4 healthy but hungry turtles. ( i love this weather, i won't lie.)

mother nature has lost her mind..We had a mini tornado come thru about 1.5 miles from us last evening. it flipped a horse shelter over and smashed it. Thankfully the horses were unharmed.

I'm kinda worried here. We have had such warm weather and now tons of rain. I fear she will need to come up bc of all of the water. What will happen if it gets chilly again, will they go back into hibernation?

That is what we are hoping. i soaked my guy while he was awake to help him rehydrate. then it was up to him to save himself.

Wow, what a difference! My natural gas bill reported I used 94 therms in February this year. Last year was 149. We've had days in the 70s recently and the early flowering trees bloomed, and then we had snow flurries and an overnight low of 19F. I hope the orchards are ok. Forcasted to be 80F next week.
