Hi,

just trying to determine the sex of a Greek tortoise("Desert Greek Tortoise") is what was posted. I'm thinking male,
but I'm just not convinced that it is. Maybe someone can chime in?

There's no such thing as a Dessert Greek.

There are Testudo graeca ibera and Testudo graeca graeca - I'm going for Ibera based on the plastron as it's not like my Tgg.

@HermanniChris will know for sure but would need a photo from the top of the shell and the head to confirm.

Yep looking male and it appears to have a hinged plastron near the rear ,looking greek to me but i am no expert in id of tortoises. Does it have a spur on each side of its hind legs near the tail?

I was hoping it was female but the consensus is male. She said she got it from her grandmother and knows nothing about its origin other than it was from a local breeder who told her it was a greek. The grandmother also has redfoots, yellowfoots, and a sulcata but didn't want this greek tortoise. It looks as though it has a slightly high dome, really a nice looking tort. She only sent me the pics I posted so I can't tell if there's spurs in the back but

Its a Greek tortoise without question. It's a male and there are many subspecies of Greek tortoise. It is definitely not ibera but appears to be T. graeca soussensis from Morocco. Very nice animal.

Would I like to get him, yes...do I need another tort...no.

I also think Testudo graceca soussensis.
Looks just like the ones I have seen in my valley down south.
