I'll post some pictures in the next day or too... I'm so completely inept with technology it feels like a big arduous task ;)
Looking at the calendar I realize that Ernie has been in our home for exact a month! Also was was warm enough that he got outside for stomping and non-stop eating several times this week. I'm sure that was good for his little tortoise soul. He was back up to 58 grams for his weekly weigh in. And his eyes have continued to improve. Looking at the pictures from when I first got him (top of this post) you can see a small mark above his right eye. His left eye now looks completely normal and the right one is much improved. I think he must have scraped it and now it is heeling... because as it has done so it got a little more notable. Or heck maybe it is a tortoise zit...what do I know? ;) Either way... he keeps getting better :) and we're so happy about that!

Ernie has been with us about 6 weeks... here are some progress photos:

Notice how Ernie has RUBBER DUCKIES on his shell... that's right... he wears his name well:

I'm hoping this represents smooth new growth:

Notice how he opens his eyes and I think they look pretty great:

thanks for asking how Ernie is doing... slow (I guess steady) progress. He is at 76 grams (but only a net gain of 2 this past month!) this surprises me since the weather has been prefect for a leo here in PA and he has had lots of outside time with all the greens a little tort can munch. A few weeks ago he shed the two top scales on his head. I read (here on an old thread) that is very common, but it did scare me. As a newbie to the field I though his skull was showing! (please feel free to laugh at my novice skills) Anyway, he is nice an active... good eater, good pooper. :)

Hi all!
Some updates... Ernie is doing well. (s)he is a slow steady grower weighing in today (7/30/16) at 91 grams. Here are some photos:

odd white circle designs have started to appear... hopefully this is just beautiful and not a health issue.

those white circles are typical in growing tortoises. Definitely nothing to worry over, Ernie is looking good. Keep up the good work!

HI guys... I just wanted to check in and let you know that little Ernie is going great! He weighed 55 grams upon arrival (Feb 2016) and yesterday weighed in a 172 grams :) He is always on the move and eats and poops like a rock star. I was told by the vet not to get too attached when he first arrived, but (s)he's over a year old now (unsure of hatch date but around Oct / Nov 2105 is the best guess) and if it's all the same, I'm very attached :D

Try soaking him in baby carrot food too. Just add enough water to the carrots to make it a little thinner. If he drinks, it will give him some calories. So sorry you have another sick baby. Keep up the good care. Hopefully the vet can help.

This baby isn't sick and doesn't need to be soaked in a carrot bath. I think you read the post back from Feb. He's doing really well now.

Yes, I realized that after I posted, not sure why these pop up as recent. Excuse me for making an error!

I just read through the thread and although you've had bad luck with your tortoises, it looks like you've done a great job with little Ernie. Keep up the good work.
