I also tried it.
Inconclusive at best.
Though the internet is full of stories of it working.
The last case of roundworms I had I treated with Panacur with dosing from a vet.
Then I treated with D E as a prophylactic every three months and then stopped.
No more Pinworms with it or without it.
I'll be anxious to see your results.
I think that most agree that the worst that can happen is nothing.
D E that is food grade is safe.

they use it to treat parasites in livestock. never tried it myself but I am tempted to do so. Will be very interested in seeing your results.

ill be sure to post them! we just ordered the stuff so once it arrives we will begin trying it out. we really hope this works because she is too small to be helped through other means.

currently the vet rated her at a 4 on a 1-4 scale for worms. meaning she is really severe. along with feeding the DE, we will be cleaning everything out 2 times a week and she will have daily soaks. we hope this will make her better but we shall see.

Con: tastes like dirt.
Pro: improves hair & coat.

I cannot confirm the following but I've heard people use it on dogs and cats for flea and tick problem & using it too much on their skin can cause drying out again and I cannot confirm this one way or the other

I primarily use DE as a bug barrier. Line the enclosure with it or fill in cracks.
Occasionally I've used it sprinkled in the garden.
Haven't ever administered it for worms but my neighbor does it monthly (among other things) for her horse.

What about black walnut tincture? I use that for my dog. Wonder how ready it would be to administer to a tortoise...hmm..

Internally. Mixed into food.
I've attempted to use it elsewhere, but it's just too humid here and it rains so often that the D.E. gets clumped up or washed away.
I HAVE used it in my attic/crawlspace. I had it professionally blown in with a machine to protect again termites and roaches. Palmetto bugs will colonize a south Florida roof if you let them. This actually was a success.

There are all kinds of videos of worms and other parasites that were killed by D.E. (Allegedly)
I think the most shocking are of humans using it on themselves. It's very interesting.

I use it on all my torts, mix it in their Mazuri once a week for three weeks in a row, twice a year. I have never lost a tort due to worms, also never had a fecal done either. So I'm just hoping it works and will keep doing it.

I don't believe anyone has reported that it worked internally
Hi All,

Sorry for dropping off here. She was not doing well for a week or so which was scary. But I can say that she was able to get through it. We did not do another fecal test so I do not know the outcome. What I can say was that we monitored everything VERY carefully for months, keeping things clean, helping her with eating (she was very weak so sometimes we would bring the food to her when she couldn't get to her bowl), soaks, carrot baby food a few times, and constantly checking temperature and humidity.

Sorry that these results are not conclusive. From a pros and cons perspective, we did not see any cons. Also, here is a post of her now: https://www.tortoiseforum.org/threa...pink-hue-on-shell-bacterial-infection.180376/ She has a new enclosure (and no bacterial infection thank goodness) which is larger as she has grown!

Overall, to anyone who experiences pinworms in their baby, I wish you all the best and maybe, MAYBE try DE, but above all else, use a notebook and track their weight, food intake, feces, temps and humidity each day to make sure its optimal!

Best,
Emma
