Hi all! Our sulcata Franklin was hatched on 9/16/16 so he's just now four months old. We are trying our best to sort through all the conflicting information and just recently started actually spraying his carapace to help prevent pyramiding. It appears that he has some mild pyramiding beginning but it could also be our paranoia. Lol! He seems to be a slow grower but he's definitely growing so we aren't super concerned. We live in the Inland valley of Southern California so he will have lots of opportunity to be outside once he's bigger. Right now he only goes outside with us under careful supervision. The photo was taken this morning during his soak.
Thanks for all the helpful info I've already found.

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

If you just go by the 'conflicting information' you read here on our Forum, you can't go wrong! The reason there's conflict is because there is no one-size-fits-all tortoise keeping instructions. There are too many variables across the world. What works for me here in Central California is probably all wrong for you in the Inland Valley. You have to read the care sheet here and determine what your tortoise needs to thrive, then provide that, regardless of the instructions on how to keep a tortoise. Just remember that your tortoise (if he were hatching in the wild) hatched out during the monsoon season. It was hot, wet and lots of available green food. He's not a desert animal.

Hello and Welcome. A closed hot and humid environment is best to grow your little one healthy and smooth. Read Toms caresheets and closed chamber thread. The closed chamber works no matter your location.
