Hi!

I own a sulcata tortoise (only 1.5 years old) with me and my family has one back home. My family cannot take care of the one back home and want me to sell it, which I don´t want to do because I fear it will be abused and abandoned.

I read that sulcatas do not do well in pairs, is the solution to have a third? Or Is there a way I will know it will find a good home?

also... the tortoise on the hardwood is mine (being kept at a friends house) and the one in the barkdust is the one at home... I know they both look like they´re getting poor care but are they looking alright? I see they both have pyramiding but it´s not getting worse now than it was in the turtle I am taking care of IMG_8690.PNG IMG_8687.JPG

I think you should give one of them up and focus your efforts on giving the best life possible for the one you keep. There is a place on the forum where you can give away or sell tortoises. There are plenty of people here who would give the tort a good life. I don't think you should try to sell it on Craig's list or something like that unless there is a way to screen the buyer.

If you do decide to keep both, you'll need to provide them with separate large enclosures and plan for the time when they will each be over 100 pounds. If you don't have the land for this, you need to take that into account.

Both torts have pyramiding. It isn't apparent from the pictures that they are being provided with the correct care. They shouldn't be allowed to roam around indoors. That electrical cord is a hazard. It is too cold on the floor and very dangerous. They need heat and humidity, as well as the correct diet. We can help you on the forum to improve conditions for your tort.

Welcome!
Sulcatas are a huge tortoise and a huge responsibility.
They do look like they've been kept too dry. There also may be other issues.
Under our Sulcata care section, you'll find everything you need for feeding, lighting, heating, etc.
Also, in our for sale section, you can very likely find one of them a new, fantastic home with a known member right here.
I recommend selling one only because it seems you may be a bit overwhelmed.
Make sure to include your location in your post. (If you do decide that.)

I got my torts at a tort farm and mine were already starting to pyramid.. but I am in the effort of saving them, and I just found out that pyramiding is because they are kept too dry. Is your environment humid? Do you soak them atleast every other day? And they also need good UV light. Natural sun is best but artificial light works too

Hi, and welcome to the Forum!

Ok, here's my opinion, one shared with Big Charlie - Keep one and find a new home for the other one. We have lots of caring, qualified members here on the Forum who would make great caretakers. Chances are pretty good that both your sulcatas are male, so you'd have to have two separate habitats if you keep them both. It would be much easier to provide the best care if you only had to make one enclosure.

I agree with only keeping one and making sure that one has a proper large enclosure inside and out. The floor is not it. You can rehome to a member here on the forum. Be sure its and active member, not a newbie that only pops in for freebies. However, you can not sell on the forum until you have met the selling requirements. This is so the forum does not become a place people join just to advertise selling.
