Suspicious

I know I've been posting a lot lately, but I have yet another question.
I use a Terra cota water bowl for my tortoise. It's always worked fine... until recently. I replace the water practically every day, but it has been mysteriously evaporating. The dirt around the bowl is constantly muddy and grouse and I'm getting sick of refilling the water just to have it slowly evaporate throughout the day.
Why is my water suspiciously disappearing into the dirt? I know Terra Cota water bowls are made to absorb moisture, but isn't this a little ridiculous to end up with an empty bowl each day? Ginger sometimes doesn't even touch the water before it's gone.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks! :)

I have recently reorganized the cage and the heat lamp is nearer to the water bowl... but it's not directly over it. I guess that could be the reason. I'm pretty sure the water bowl is not glazed, but the weird thing is, it's worked for me for a year without any problems. I guess it's probably because of the lamp. I'll probably end up getting a new water bowl because my tort likes warm water. :)
And @Maro2Bear, you're right, it does keep up the humidity. ;) However, Ginger is a picky Russian and doesn't seem to enjoy soggy substrate.:)

This happens to mine on occasions, if happens to one of my indoor enclosures, it happens to all of them on same day.

That's why I buy the plastic saucers that LOOK like clay. The water can't seep out.

I have a big one like that and the water does actually slowly seep right through the clay !

I have had this happen as well. I do not have to move my lights for it to suddenly start seeping through. Sometimes it will stop for a few day. Frustrating to say the least.

You've got a seeper!

I find about one in ten is a seeper. I just use the ones that seep for food and replace them with another one.
