I had read about coconut coir. Is Amazon the best place to get it from? There are some threads on here that recommend the stuff I have mixed with coconut coir.

image.jpg The lamp is on its own fitting and screwed in as the lamp box and table instructions stated. The heat mat is behind a glass wall again following the table and mats instructions. We got it as a starter, ready to look into better ones when we understood more ourselves.

Chris, who wrote the care sheet, really knows his stuff, more than I do, but I've never used aspen myself as I understand it's not so good for keeping moist. But mixed with the coir it should be okay. Likewise I would never use sand as it's an impaction risk. We all have differing views, maybe someone else will chip in.

Yes I've read it doesn't stay moist enough. The books I have all agree that sand is not good for tortoises, at least not bagged sand.

The light looks good, I've never heard of that brand before, perhaps because I don't live in the UK. :) Toby looks good and healthy in your picture! I'm not sure about the aspen thing as my tortoise doesn't need the enclosure quite as moist... so hopefully someone else can advice you about that! :)

Thanks. He shouldn't need a moist enclosure but I've read that aspen is a bit too dry fry tortoises.

Coco coir should be warm and moist, not cold and wet or too dry.
Greeks need their humidity too.
