It's water hyacinth. My tortoise nibble it a few times. But don't eat much of any. They are all the water lettuce. The plants help with filtering the water since its so small.

Do you ever clean the water since the plants filter it?

I hardly ever do a water change. It evaporates and when I turn the spriklers on it refills it. I also run a bio filter on it so it has a real filter plus the plants help. Short answer no I.never clean the water. It stays Crystal clear

I bet you spend some time throwing a few out?:) they multiply quickly. I start with just 1 every year and by mid summer I'm either trying to sell them or just tossing them.
I have a 1700 gallon pond that I throw any extras in. My aquatic tare through plants lol. Water lettuc has all been eaten those multiplied faster. I found a bunch of snails inside the mini pond too. They must been eating most the algae in the ground . hopefully I can get a nice breeding colony going as food for the tuetles.

This is the other side of the enclosure. It has a smaller water dish. It's not enough for them to sit in but has no filter. I change the water every day in that dish. The cages are around banana trees. Any they tried to grow they would eat them. So protecting them till they get bigger. Even then they will probably take them down.
