I've had this sulcata for about a year and new shell growth is starting to come out. It literally looks like a welding bead around all the scutes just on top of the shell. Just looks odd to me. My other sulcata never grew like this. The top of the shell is flat and appears to be sunk down. Maybe now with the proper care the shell is trying to grow back up and repair itself?ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1459976213.554406.jpgImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1459976224.539745.jpg

Hmmm, does look quite different. Will be interesting to see how it all grows out.

This picture was taken a month and a half ago with every scute having even smooth growth all the way around. it turned odd looking pretty fast. ImageUploadedByTortoise Forum1459987031.429247.jpg

Can you post from side, so we can see clearly how it looks like.
I am a newbie. And eager to learn and see. Thank you.

Try putting some sort of lubricant on it. Something like cold pressed, extra virgin coconut oil, or olive oil. But be sure to polish off all the excess.

Thanks Yvonne. My other sulcata gets a really dry shell. I used vita shell before and it worked great. It comes in a tiny tub. When that was gone I use coconut oil. Definitely have to wipe the excess off. The girl in the picture was new to me and how her shell started to grow on top of the carapace was weird. that spurt just caught my attention. I never seen that before. She was in a zoo med tortoise house before I got her. She had no room in that thing. She was six years old supposedly and now she's seven. She was way smaller than my three year old sulcata and now a inch longer and 5lbs heavier. I think she's now happy. :)
