Howdy! My name is Brooke and I am a new sulcata tortoise owner from Texas. My little Rey is about 5 months old. I have done a ton of research on these amazing creatures, but unfortunately I still feel inadequate as a tortoise owner. Rey has been growing quite fast over the past few months, but has slowed down recently. I feel like this is apart of the natural growing cycle, but what concerns me is that she is starting to pyramid. To combat this I am making her a new enclosure in a 50 gallon tank that can be enclosed to increase the humidity. I would love some advice on the best way go about this. I will post pictures of her and her current enclosure.

Thank you to whom ever created this forum and for all that post on it. I have read many of the threads and have found them very helpful!20160730_154629.jpg 20160730_163437.jpg 20160730_154609.jpg

I'll point you to the locked threads at the top of the sulcata section. You'll find everything you need to know and more .

Thank you Tom. I have read these before, they were very helpful and provided alot of great information. One thing I am struggling with how to practically apply the information. I will be changing Rey's enclosure today and I will see how well it maintains humidity. Hopefully this will help prevent her from pyramiding more. If you have any further advise on how best to implement this, it would be a great help!

Hello, Brooke and a very warm welcome to Tortoise Fotum to you and Rey.
Make sure he has a shallow terracotta saucer sunk into the substrate that is big enough for him to soak in.
Soak him for 15 to 20 minutes to a little above the join of plastron and carapace. I would do this daily, to begin.
I pour water directly into the substrate and mix it in by hand to ensure humidity.

Hi and welcome Brooke , daily soaks in warm water will help. Quick fix is plastic or foil right over your screen top ! :)
