Boarding Anna

Hey everyone! So my fiancée and I are off to Paris for two weeks, and I just got back from the reptile vet where we dropped off Anna for her own two-week vacation.

As excited as we both are about this wonderful trip, I'd be lying if I didn't admit I miss my little Anna. It was the weirdest thing to see her in this bright white room surrounded on both sides by rabbits, dogs, and other non-tort species.

I'm wondering, has anyone else had experience with boarding their redfoot? Does anyone have any advice about foods that absolutely must not be given to her? I brought over her favorite foods, but the vet has her own stock and will likely feed Anna a little of this and a little of that. I'm also skeptical about the lighting/humidity issue, and it's a bit frustrating that they don't have mulch or other tort-friendly substrate (except hay).

I miss my Anna!!!!!

Awe. Never boarded a tortoise but sounds like she's in good hands. 2 weeks isn't too long she will be fine. Enjoy Paris though and your vacation. ! Carful out there

I have to admit, I wouldn't recommend boarding as torts frequently don't handle change well and they definitely shouldn't be mixed with other torts (quarantine and infection)

However, a vet should be all too clear on infection control and, assuming they have expertise in tortoise care, it sounds as good as any. I imagine it's quite expensive though.

I have a well trained next-door neighbour so Joe can stay where he's happiest in our garden.

oooo...that's tough. You're going to be thinking about Anna and wondering about her your whole vacation. Hopefully she's going to be just fine.

I have both a neighbor and a relative that tortoise sit for me.
It's just a matter of unlocking the back fence, tossing in some food and turning on the water for the pools to flush and refill.
It's easy if you have them living outdoors.

You are lucky-touch wood. I live alone, therefore, if I were to leave I'd have to leave Oli alone. Moreover, people in this part of the world do NOT like animals/pets, so I would not be able to "trust" anyone to look after him. To make things yet more difficult; there are no vets for torts here! This keeps me worried 24 hours a day.

Thanks for the replies folks! Loving Paris, but yes I'm certainly missing my little Anna!! Hoping she's eating her food, sleeping well, adjusting to her "hotel" at the animal house. I'm also hoping Anna is enjoying the other animals they have staying there. I'm just glad they gave her her own enclosure. And yes Zero I'm very jealous of you!

I have family friends take care of Bean when I'm away, they just come over and feed/soak him every day. They live next door so it works.

I know how you feel. I'm away right now, I miss my little kiss boy.
