Hey,

So In August I'll be going on holiday for 2 weeks, considering I'm pretty sure my tort can't survive that long alone like my turtles I'll bring him along with me so I can take care of him while I'm there, however after, I might go to the UK for the week and I clearly won't be able to bring him with me, is it ok to leave him for a week? (Maybe pile up enough yummies to last him?)

He is a horsfield, no idea on how old the little lad is because no one knew how old he was at the store.

Kind Regards
Josh

Torts often don't travel well. Many don't like change and carting all the lamps and stuff is a pain.

It's far better to get timers for your lamps and have someone look in to top up the water and drop some food in.

They are pretty resilient, so yes they can survive just fine without constant monitoring.

It's having someone check for tipping and the water that's important.

Oh righty, thanks for the fast reply! I'll see what I can do when the time comes then

I recently went on vacation and paid a local kid ten bucks a day to drop in and take care of my animals. I simplified a few steps to make it easy on the kid. I cut out soakings for the week, no greens cut from the yard, no swapping of his live plants, and only store bought greens that I pre chopped for him before leaving. Not the best conditions, but I seriously doubt one week like that hurt him.

I also have a pair of Guinea pigs, a cat, a rabbit, and a bearded dragon that he had to take care of. I have my routine down and can do everything in 30-40 minutes, but I figured an hour of work for him. Ten dollars a day seemed fair for that.

A very warm welcome to the forum!

Please post pics of your tort and his/her enclosure. Do you give him daily soaks in warm water? If not, please do so.

I agree, you should leave him at home. I've traveled many times and left Charlie on his own, having someone come by to give him water, since he feeds himself by grazing our yard. When he was little, I left him at a kennel with instructions and store-bought greens.

a healthy tort can survive 2 weeks without food and water.
i once went on vacation for almost 2 weeks, fed my radiata before i left and set up all the lights on timer. i did not fill the water dish since i know he'll poop in it. (i did left some lettuce and cabbage leaves )

when i came back he just lost some weight. until today he is still healthy and grows about 10 grams a month.

When I go away, i arrange a tortoise sitter.
They do not travel well.
My friend Zachariah pops in to provide fresh water and food etc. but if you have to leave the tort for a week or two, it won't do any harm.
Just came back from Spain.
