My little Cherryhead Rowan just turned two. Recently, he's become much more boisterous in that he is knocking over his little trees and pushing his cave and pier around in his enclosure. Is this a sign of his maturing or is he just being a brat? image.jpeg

I have seen adult desert tortoises pushover small trees that they either did not like or in their way. it's just something tortoises do.

Hahaha, so true... They tend to go *through* things rather than around them. I'm convinced the only reason they climb anything is because it's too big to move, so they're forced to go over rather than through!

I agree as well. My RT likes to knock things over because she knows if she's loud enough, I come over to check on her and might give her something to eat. :)

Haha! Yep. My nearly 3 yr olds do the same. Plow through everything.

Another thing they do that drives me bananas, they barely eat in their outdoor enclosure despite having explored in it often. The SECOND I transplant outdoor plants into their INDOOR enclosure, they utterly destroy them! They eat every last bite! :D I'm like, "hey guys, you DO know you could've ate these same plants outside?" :D

This thread is hilarious :D

I wish I could explain to them that going AROUND saves them more time instead of walking head-first into something for eons. Bean's arch nemesis is this chair I sit in when he's eating outside. He can't fit under it but he's not going to just throw away 2 years of trying.

Now that's one smart cookie! A tortoise that actually plots for things to happen in the future to her advantage. Hmmmm.
