I have a very hard time figuring out how to post pics. I have videos I would love to post but I can't do it. If you can see this picture, you will see that his back is healing. It's almost like his shell is growing over the injury. He is much more steady on his feet, but still tips himself over more often than he should.

I hope these pictures come through. Bruno is 3 weeks and 4 days old. He has increased his weight from 23 grams to 29 grams. He doesn't look bigger, but his shell looks better. In these last pictures you cannot see his ribs anymore, the shell is healing over.
I would still like some advice on how to get him to eat his "greens". He loves wild flowers, and will pick the smallest of pieces out of the salad to avoid eating the leaves. I'm glad he's eating a natural diet, everything comes from the wild, but he needs the calcium in the leaves and grasses. Should I just stop giving him flowers until he eats the greens? Thanks everyone for the advice. I hope the pictures show his growth and development.

I understood that the dirty thing in the carapace is injury carapace.
Yes, it looked like Mud at first, but it was the rotted shell. When it fell off, and more fell off after that picture was taken, it exposed two of his back ribs. The Veteranarian thinks that he was either in the shell too long, and it started to decompose, or he the egg was trapped where there was a lot of moisture, so the shell started to mold. He came out of the shell that day looking like that. Thank goodness he is doing much better. I uploaded some new photos of the little guy, and his shell is healing rather quickly.

Looking good! He's a very lucky tort to have you looking after him.

As for getting him to eat his greens you can try chopping everything up very finely (including whatever food he likes most) wetting it all so it sticks together and then giving it to him.
Start with a small ratio of greens to flowers and once he eats that continue to offer the mix with more greens in it.
Torts are stubborn and you'll have to be extra stubborn to combat that. :D

I don't know how much experience you have had with torts, but the way you looked after this little guy, incredible.
I didn't think it would recover so fast. It looks really really good. And just think how many other people you're gonna help with this thread. Your care goes beyond words Mara29. Again he \ she looks great,.....Again incredible job!!!

we adopted a tortoise many years ago when I was in high school. My mom did most of the work, and she couldn't keep it, so she took it to a wildlife refuge. I always felt bad about that. Now I can save one, and I will do my best to raise him.
