Having a tortoise...more rewarding than I thought

So Max the baby Russian has been with us for almost a month, and today he did the sweetest thing. I was petting his shell after cleaning up his food. He kept trying to smell my fingers as he likes to do. So I laid my hand down in front of him to let him get his fill. He gave my fingers a good sniff and then rested his head on one of them and closed his eyes and proceeded to snooze/bask.
Probably it helped that my hand was in the right place at the right time and may have smelled like cucumber...but still.....

They smelled like cucumber and he didn't take a couple of bites?
Most people tend to think of tortoises as rocks. but new keepers quickly learn, thhey are just as cute and funny as cats or dogs.

I sure do. The longer I keep my tortoise, and the more I interact with him, the more moments like this I have. Some of my friends think I am crazy ( I am a little), but all the neighbor hood kids come by to see Chuck and ask questions about him.

Oh my gosh! The kids in my hood love to run up and take a look at Gus! It's cute but frighting how fast they run!

Mine always come to my fingers with their lethal jaws wide open and try the taste of my flesh

They are just so adorable... mine took a bite of my cucumber scented finger yesterday...my reflexes need tuning up!
