Hi everyone! Sorry that I haven't been on in a while, please pardon my absence. Please tell me what I've been thinking about a proper diet for my tortoise, and this is what I've come up with.

Sunday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-1 piece Opuntia Cactus
-1/2 cup escarole
-2 tablespoons carrot (chopped)
Monday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-1 cup green beans
Tuesday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-1 piece Opuntia Cactus
-1/2 cup chopped okra
Wednesday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-2 leaves green cabbage
-2 leaves red cabbage
-1/2 cup dandelions
Thursday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-2 leaves Romaine lettuce
-1/2 cup bok choi
Friday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-1 piece Opuntia Cactus
-2 leaves radicchio
-1 leaf red cabbage
-1/4 cup chopped carrots
Saturday-
-Mazuri Tortoise Diet
-1/2 cup arugula
-1 cup kale
-1/2 cup dandelions

NOTES:
As soon as I can identify some of the weeds in my yard, I'll have those readily available.
This diet is for a Mediterranean Spur-Thighed Tortoise who is the size of an EXTREMELY large hamburger.
This diet will change every month or so.
QUESTIONS:
How much Mazuri Tortoise Diet should I feed him?

Thank you so much in advance!:D:tort:

I would feed Mazuri 3 times a week. I wouldn't feed carrot or cabbage. Dandelions are great in moderation, plantain is great, clover, sow thistle etc. Please visit The tortoise table for more information. There are pictures and everything :).

Here are my opinions:
1. No carrot.
2. Mazuri twice a week.
3. More "natural" foods and less stuff from the grocery store. Your tortoise needs the fiber and higher calcium to phosphorous ratio offered by weeds and certain leaves.
4. While its not harmful, there is no need to feed three or four different items each day. You can feed arugula one day, endive the next, Mazuri the next and then opuntia, etc…
5. You can measure if you want to, but I just put down a big pile. If they eat it all, I give more the next day. If there is some left over, I feed less the next day.
6. Post pics of the weeds in your yard and number each weed. We can try to help ID them for you.
7. I'd skip the okra, romaine and cabbage and replace it with endive, escarole, and rocket salad. Also add carrot tops, squash leaves, cilantro, celery tops, collard greens, turnip greens, etc. into the rotation too.

Here is a list of easy to find or grow foods for suggestions:
Mulberry leaves
Grape vine leaves
Hibiscus leaves
African hibiscus leaves
Blue hibiscus leaves
Rose of Sharon leaves
Rose leaves
Geraniums

Leaves and blooms from any squash plant, like pumpkin, cucumber, summer squash, etc...
Young spineless opuntia cactus pads
