Hello everyone!

Two weeks ago I purchased a five week old Greek tortoise, would anyone be able to tell me what kind of a Greek is it? Also he doesn't seem to be eating that much only a few nibbles after I soak him and just sleeps all day. I've read some posts on this forum and most of them pretty much say that at this age that is what they do I'm just worried about the eating. Any help would be great!

Hi and a very warm welcome to the forum.

Don't worry: torts in general, take a lot of time to adapt to a different place, environment, climate, owner, and the rest. This requires a lot of patience.

Please post pics of your tort and its enclosure.

Hi Tish, and welcome to the Forum!

Please post good, clear pictures of your new baby. We'll need to see top and bottom and face pictures. I'll send a shout-out to @HermanniChris and hopefully he'll be able to I.D. the sub species for you.

Thanx guys!
So these are some pics of him and the enclosure. He's sleeping now and I don't want to bother him so I will post more pictures of his bottom tomorrow.

Welcome :) I definitely need to see the bottom too. Baby Greeks are very hard to distinguish from one another because they are so similar until older. It does look like a southern ibera Greek though.

I can already see one problem though. Your substrate is way too dry. If you read some of the caresheets we've all put together on this site you'll see how important humidity and hydration is for just all about all species of tortoise while they are so young. This may be why he is not eating well.

Hi everyone!
Here some pics I took today I hope their clear enough. I just changed the subtratrate a week ago I had coconut fiber but it was too dusty and it was bothering his eyes so I changed it to repti bark. The humidity ranges between 45% and 55%. Today he seemed to have a better appetite he ate almost a whole medium sized dandelion leaf. I took a pic of him with a bottle cap just so you have an idea of how big he is. Also I've read that they can be fed aloe Vera plant would it be ok if fed it to him?

It's definitely an ibera Greek. Humidity is way too low. It should be upwards of 70-80% while so young. The bark is not the best choice. Have you read any of the carehseets regarding Greeks, Hermann's or Russians? You can follow anyone of them for proper substrate and other info.

Yes I have. I'm in Canada and our gardening season is over the only soil that I have been able to find is potting mixes like miracle grow or soils that have stuff in it. I will try and find some at smaller gardening centres. The humidity that I said before is on the warm side, on the cool side where he sleeps is at 73% I have a digital hydrometer so hopefully it's pretty accurate. He sleeps in damp sphagnum moss he seems to like it. Today I gave him a little piece of aloe and he went crazy for it! His appetite seems to be definitely getting better
Thanx for all your help!!
