I had looked at the ones in the jars. They had all kinds of stuff I wouldn't feed my tort. I don't think rinsing them will work.
I am going to try canning some cactus in plain water. Maybe I will try some grape leaf too. I am hopefully getting some leaf this weekend, so if I do and get a lot of them, I will try canning some in plain water and see what happens. I will update on a seperate thread. If I remember, I'm bad with that, so doesn't hesitate sending me a pm to remind me:)
I'd try dehydrating cactus, that's how it's sold in pet stores

Yes, but I'd rather find a better way to keep them more moist. I try dehydrating/drying some out in my oven a year or two ago. Took a very long time and the thicker parts take longer then the thinner. They sell canned/jarred cactus and grape leaf in stores for humans. I kno they can be canned, I just don't know if it can be done in plain water and last. Only doing one cactus, so I won't lose much if it doesn't work.

Hi I am new here. I am the mother of Alice, a 20 pound Sulcata. I am going to can grape leaves from my plants that have never been sprayed. All the canning instructions say to blanch them for 30 seconds, roll and stack in jars. Them add salted lemon water and water bath for 15 minutes. I skip all salt when canning anything so I would think you can skip it with grape leaves. So I will do just that. They probably wi9ll have to be rinsed before the tort will eat them because of the lemon. I do believe you must can them with it...to water bath it. otherwise you would have to pressure can them and they would become slime...Do you think wellington

They are safe. Odin doesn't have too much interest in them but he does occasionally nibble the leaves and flower petals.
Rowan ate some of the petals from one of my roses out front. It was a Pope John Paul II rose which has white petals and a strong citrus fragrance. Rowan ate a crape myrtle blossom the other day. He won't eat leaves, weeds, or flowers if I put them in his bowl. He only eats those he finds on his own "in the wild" when I take him outside to get natural sunshine.
