Tortoise's don't need nor do they want friends. Having a pair of torts together is actually quite dangerous for the torts because of bullying and aggressive behavior, which can lead to one or both (usually just one) becoming very sick or dying because of the stress. If you want to get another tort for YOU, and do a separate enclosure for that new tort, that's fine. But it is very super highly recommended to never ever ever do pairs. It only ever leads to eventual illness/death for one or both.

Idk guys I've had tortoises of all types on big groups for years and I've never had a problem they also enjoy being with each other and communicate with they're little head bobbing the only problem I've ever had was when I had two male sulcatas they fought so I had to separate them

"Big groups" does not equal "pairs" though. People arent saying you can't house multiples, just that they work better in groups of three or more. Lots of keepers here have bad "pair" stories that are worth reading if you haven't seen them.
