I used to use roast beef slices to trick my dog to eat the pill.
Taking the slice and making 3 or 4 rolled chunks getting him to each one from my hand.
He never knew which rolled ball had the pill. He would be so eager he wouldn't put it down to
analize it.

Well it’s been a couple of weeks since I started giving her the "Resources Canine Incontinence" and there has been a big improvement, but only within the last few days. I increased the dosage last week from two a day to 4 after not seeing any improvement the first week. Yesterday she wasn’t eating anything probably because of the heat (107°F) so she only had one pill last night.

I gave her a bath during the heat of the day to cool her off and she did look like she felt better afterword although she still wasn’t eating. It was a struggle giving her a bath and I think I got the worst of it because I was soaked. I have to remember to remove my shoes the next time.

She will not take the pill this morning even with the pill pocket so today with the help of my wife I’m going to cut all the hair from her behind as well as the back of her legs and maybe a little off the tail so the urine will flow off her. The hair was all matted up behind her and I had a heck of a time wash it out. The Incontinence is improving, but the heat is not helping things because she just doesn’t want to eat when it’s hot and maybe I might just have to cut all her hair short.

From what I’ve read on the internet it takes 2 to 4 weeks for it to really work, but I’m only going to go one more week before going the more drastic route of using prion. She fights us using that stuff and she can smell it inside everything. At least she will chew up and swallow the "Resources” tablets. She just isn’t an aggressive eater unlike my Beagle who will swallow anything without even smelling or tasting it. If I put a metal screw in my month and spit it out, that dam beagle would swallow it in a microsecond.

I don't want to eat when it's that hot either :) try putting her pill in a chicken heart. It fits right in there and the dogs usually like it. I haven't read the whole thread, have you tried peanut butter or soft cheese? My dog is not an aggressive eater either so sometimes it is hard for her to take her pills but usually the peanut butter does the trick. You could take her to the groomer and have her shaved. That should make her cooler.

I have not tried chicken heart and i don't know where to get one, but she usually pulls everything apart and eats everything except the pill. She drops the peanut butter and licks it off the pill.
Anyway I did think about taking her to a groomer, but they take a long time to get in and I don't know if they will take her with this problem. I do have a clipper set and I'm off work for a couple of days. I can't work on the ground because of bad knees so I'll have to get her up on a table to do it.

Well I managed to cut most of the much needed hair before my trimmers died. She looks funny because I have more hair on one side than the other, but as soon as I buy another trimmer I’m going to do all of it. Make her look like a lion. Her hair is long and coarse making it difficult to cut. She’s upset at the moment and will not take a pill, but both my wife and I have noticed the problem has worsened just after one day without the pills.

I need to ask the vet if prion comes in liquid or if we can dilute it into liquid so we can squirt it down her throat. I just can’t fight her anymore and as much as I hate to say it, we may have to put her down this winter if she gets worst.

You get chicken hearts at the grocery store. Usually sell it by the livers and gizzards. Is the pill in a tablet form or a capsule? If so ask your vet if you can either take the capsule apart and sprinkle it in peanut butter etc. or smash the pill up and sprinkle it in peanut butter etc. or you could smash it and put it in canned food, the fine chopped up stuff. If you would mix it with enough other stuff she won't taste it hopefully. Liquid would also work for this. You're going to fight her just as much squirting it in her mouth as you will shove it down her throat.
Try to act as normal as you can, they learn the routine and if you start acting tense when you're preparing the food bill notice and run away. My dog does. I'm lucky, my dog will at least eat her peanut butter 90% of the time.

I usually sit down in a chair with the chewable pill in my pocket along with another treat for the beagle. The beagle is usually jumping around all excited so I give her a small treat first to get rid of her and then I give the other dog Paige the pill which she usually eats unless she takes too long making up her mind. And then the beagle comes back to steel it out of her mouth and page then give up and walks away.

When I give the dogs a treat, Paige will take hers to her bed and the Beagle will wait just out of view until page leaves her bed to see what’s going on and then Sadie beelines it in to steal the treat. This has been going on for 7 years and I just don’t know why Paige hasn’t figured it out yet.

I had an issue with my male dog. The issue with eating pills.
I used a quarter of a slice of cheese and folded it over his medication into a little ravioli shape.
Unfortunately his incontinence was caused by his medication. For six more years I carried him outside about 4 times a day. Every day.

Well so far I didn't see a single response about the issue at hand. Dogs do not dribble urine as you describe from incontinence. Incontinence starts at a young age after spay and can continue into adulthood. You did not mention that any tests were done to determine what the cause might be. Only you gave medicine (not knowing what it is) and no improvement. There are multiple medications for incontinence if appropriate. A lot of what you describe is an overflow issue. That means the bladder has too much urine and the sphincter can not contain it. No medication is going to fix that situation of overflow. What you should look into or may have already done is a urinalysis, urine culture (sterile), and bloodwork and maybe xrays to explain why your dog is dribbling everywhere. Depending on the findings, a treatment plan can be instituted. That may not be what you want to hear, but if you are trying to get resolution to the issue, it is necessary.

She has had this problem for a little over a year and we did take her to the vet last year. She was given a prescription for pills and she wouldn’t take them without a fight. She wasted about half the bottle, so we gave up trying to give her the pill and I assure you we tried everything from peanut butter, hot dogs, hamburger, lunch meat, tuna fish and cheese. Each and every time she would run off to drop it on the ground and remove the pill from the treat. There were a few times when we held her and pushed the pill down her throat only to have her run off and throw it up. She was determined to not take those pills.

She is taking the "Resources Canine Incontinence", but we have to play into her to do it. I have to set down with her and the other dog who is an aggressive food hound to get her to take them. I have a couple of other treats in my hand as well the pills and as the beagle is jumping all over trying to snatch the treats out of my hand, I slip a pill the Paige and she chews it up while I give the beagle a treat. After she takes the pill I give her a treat and she runs off so the beagle will not steal it from her. I tried doing the same thing last year with the prescription medicine, but there is something in the pill the she just doesn’t like and she can smell it.

I asked the question on the internet of how long the other pills take to work and got answers from a week to a month. So we are going to continue with these until the bottle is done although I’m not sure if I’m going to continue unless there is a dramatic change within the next week. There has been a change in her since we started with these new pills, but it does not eliminate the problem completely.

The difference is that instead of a constant dripping as before, it is now sudden discharge of about 2 to 3oz and usually happens with excitement when someone walks out the door. I do see her going out to relieve herself regularly even through the night on my security cameras so her balder must be working somewhat.

I have spoken to another vet besides my current vet and I’m told that it does not sound like it is from being spade because it’s been over 8 years and the problem only now started. She said that usually it would have started shortly after the spade and it is most likely due to old age.

Anyway we are going to get her old prescription refilled and see if we can get her to take the pills after she has been conditioned to taking pills twice a day. And due to her age, I am not going to spend a lot of money for unnecessary tests or procedures just because my vet wants to buy another house or go on a lavish vacation. Paige is not sick and does not appear to be suffering in anyway. I know when she is sick because I got her when she was deathly sick.

I don’t know exactly how old she is because she was in pretty bad shape when we got her with large scars on her head and back as is if she were beaten with something. Every time I pick up anything that resembles a pipe, she closes her eyes and drops her head before running off to hide.

Has she had a urinalysis, urine culture or bloodwork done?
I hope so because I paid enough for it. It seems like it costs me about $500 every time she goes in and that's why I'm looking for another vet. I didn't take her so I would have to ask my wife. I have 2 dogs and 5 cats so its costing me a fortune.

So the answer is no to all the above. Poor dog. Keep this in the back of your mind, when you are sick, don't go to the doctor and check w/ Dr. Google and treat yourself with some home remedy because the Doctor wants a bigger house at your expense!

I never said that. I said the dog did go to the vet last year and although I wasn't there because I have to work to pay for it, I'm sure the vet did all the stuff that was supposed to and I'm not paying for it again. I do have a limit on what I will spend including on myself.

In my opinion, if you keep vet hopping so to speak it will cost you more in the long run. A new vet doesn't know your dog or you at all. They don't know the history and they will probably want to run more tests and do more exams to try to figure things out. I understand you want to find a cheaper vet, but there may not be a cheaper one in your area.

I have a max that I will spend usually around $500 and then its put down. I figure she had a good life with us the past 8 to 9 years and I'm guessing that she only has a few more years left anyway. My neighbor nearly lost her home to pay over $3500 to the vet for her dog and the dog died a few months later anyway. The dog suffered the whole time and I will never do that.

I didnt read all the comments, sorry.

Have you tried a diaper? My dog is in heat right now and she wears a diaper. I could see this working for your issue. You would just have to change her pads often, better than **** all over the floor though.

Wow..a bit extreme..this member came here in hopes someone could point him in a helpful direction, not to be slammed for not mortgaging the house in order to hand it over to a vet who clearly did not resolve the concern in prior visit (s).
