Anyone know what this is? It's sprung up right up against the fence and I suspect this will be a large tree since it sprung up so quickly.

Base of tree of that's helpful at all.

First thing that popped into my head was paulownia.

But there's not much confidence behind that.

I think the top tree looks more like a poplar, almost exactly like Hybrid Poplar. But could be Basswood too.

I agree with "poplar", or "cottonwood". Leaves on young plants, or regrowth from a cut back plant can be very large.

The tree is a Paulownia, also called the Princess Tree....the marijauna looking plant is a Texas Star Hibiscus. How are the tortie eggs coming along?

Thanks! Is it a tree worth digging up and moving and replanting away from the fence line? I could use more shade in my tortoise yards during the midday hours so it's a worthy tree, I'll move it.
They seem to be doing well. I candled them a while back and the 3 I candled had veins. :D

Probably one of the fastest growing trees on the planet and will quickly provide shade, drawback is it can become very invasive after it starts blooming and dropping seeds (and don't know and havent been able to determine if the blooms/seeds are toxic to torts), other members may be able to shed light on that. Glad to hear about the eggs, Tortollini dropped 10 more eggs a couple weeks ago, I have them incubating now.

Have been thinking about that tree and now think it is probably a Catalpa tree, also an incredibly fast grower. Just candled the eggs and all are fertile....good girl.

The tree has alternate leaf arrangement, so it is not Paulonia, or Catalpa. Populus is the genus.

Thanks guys!
What about this one? It's not nearly as fast growing but looks to be a tree?
