Box turtles and crayfish

Hey y'all. I was wondering if box turtles can eat crayfish? I live on a creek and there's tons of crayfish here

Ask your box turtle. Seriously. Put one in the water dish & see- but watch them.

Tjey can eat, I.assume they do so in the wild.

Well he didn't touch it beyond moving it out of his way, so I don't know if he has an interest.
Honestly, he hasn't been eating much. Only twice has he ever finished a whole meal, and that was because I left it for him for three days and nights, so he grazed it over that time. But now that he's outside I can't do that because I don't want it to attract anything overnight. So he eats about 1/4-1/3 of it and that's it before I have to pick it up because it's getting dark out (I give it to him in the morning). Any suggestions?

Try a live one in the water. Try feeding at dawn & dusk. They wake up earlier than you'd think & are active then. Offer more variety.

I cared for a boxie for a few weeks and it was impressive to watch him hunt crickets. He would get very still as the cricket approached and the launch his head and neck to snap up that cricket. Worms are also a good treat for your boxie.

I have given him crickets and worms as well, which at first he was interested in but when I offer now he couldn't care less. I'll try a live crayfish, see if he likes that. I had offered small/medium small feeder fish but he didn't care. They even pushed themselves under him to hide and he watched them do it, but didn't do anything to stop them or try to eat them. Eventually he just lifted himself up and walked away, which caused the fish to sometimes go nuts and swim in every direction, sometimes swim after him and attempt to hide under him again

He gets carrots, bananas, strawberries, collard greens, red leaf lettuce, mushrooms, rehydrated turtle food, squash, apples, grapes, dandelions, pumpkin, tomatoes, and around once a month I offer a little but of scrambled egg on top of his regular meal.

I've also offered slugs, but I've never even seen him interested. He'll stare it down, then completely ignore it

I've always fed crawfish to mine,they like them to be alive.but I've always pulled the claws off first.

Okay, I'll try that next time. You don't have a problem with the crayfish biting your boxies? I don't know if they really could or not, but it's something I worried about

No ,just twist the main pinchers off before putting them in. And you don't have to put them in water they will eat them on dry ground,

I'll give you a "crawdad"tip. No matter the type of lid that you place on your aquarium or terrarium, Crayfish will find a way up and out of it and will travel quite a long distance before drying up like a cracker and dying.
It can be pretty frightening to wake up to pee at 3 A.M. and encounter a groggy crawdad in the hallway. (Ask me how I know....)
However, one that seems dead will very often come back around if placed back in the water. even after more than a day.

My gulf turtle particularly likes to eat in the water. All of them will eat moving food. He even ate cherries in his water dish that he ignored on the ground. Sometimes when they're in their water dish I put the slugs on the edge.
