HI friends,
So, I now have two CDT's. They have been fun to watch in our big backyard. One is friendly and comes looking for food when we go outside. She likes to eat dandelion's out of our hands. The other is a bit shy. What has been your experience with them? Each has their own personality!

Each will have their own personality, but they are all unique. You might notice they will both become outgoing and run to you for food. It is establishing that all important, "Oh boy, here comes the food God" relationship with you. Once they realize you are bringing food, they start coming over.

My experience is the same as yours...some of them are super friendly/tame and others of them hiss and retreat into their shells when I approach.

My love of these guys come from a very elderly gentleman named Elmer whom I had the honor and pleasure of his company during his final years. He was the most outgoing and friendly tortoise I have ever been around.

They are all unique individuals. I find that the shy ones will eventually become less fearful if I tune into them, and back off when they retract into their shell. But everybody tends to be a little shy just out of hibernation, in my experience.

I had the friendly CDT like you describe. They are neat!

I'm curious, does anyone think housing them in a pair plays into the 1 outgoing/ 1 shy factor?
I've seen it first hand affect Russians, leopards and 1 pair of yearling CDT I fostered in that way. So I just throw that out there as food for thought.. ?

Are they both the same sex? How large are they? Where did each one come from? How long have they been in your care?
