I would be interested. The current humidifier is working well but the tort keeps growing. Go figure. I will have to have something figured out by next fall. You say you can keep the humidity up with an open top??? That sounds good, but unbelievable at the same time. It must produce a ton of mist. Also, would it still need to be distilled water. I presume so.

When I am home from the office, I will take pictures of the Redfoots enclosure (the guy pictured above). The top is 50% open. These produce a great deal of mist and can be run 24/7. The added airflow seems to prevent the substrate from becoming damp, helping to reduce shell rot and increase moisture in the air only.

I have used standard tap water in all of these humidifiers, and it's been over a year without any cleaning or issues. All humidifiers will include an extra disc set and they are removable and cleanable at any time, if needed.

Sorry! Should have clarified that my statements were in regard to cherries. Seems to be a relationship between protein, humidity and growth that makes marbeling appear more often. But I don't have a large enough sample size raised this way to know for sure.

Maybe in time...

animal protein or plant protein?

Always gets his greens and mazari mixed/chopped in, each and every day. Noticeably faster growth, while still smooth compared to my other Reds (Cherries) that are on lower humidity and protein. No marbelling in them, even the older ones.

Clutchmates to the one above that has heavy marbelling are also showing no signs of marbelling, which others have raised in lower humidity and protein.

Since I've gradually increased the protein to every day (up from 3 times a week), and increased humidity to 90%+ (up from 70%) the marbelling has also increased and stayed white.

I'm in, but have a few questions.

1) What is the pre-group buy price that the discount is from?

2) It's been my understanding disk ultrasonic humidifiers can only have a slight water depth over them (Yes?). So do the disks sit on a float or something to maintain that water depth while in a five gallon bucket?

3) Can you tell us where the moisture proof fans come from, or tell us what additional cost they would be in either the 'kit' or as components?

I'd rather source the others parts locally with a specific list, that way you have less stuff to ship, and then also less cost to ship.

BTW, no matter the outcome, thanks for posting the idea and images of your system. Good practical how-to is always a great thing. I know it takes alot of 'fooling around' to settle on how to do something from scratch, and it is incalculable the mental time solving problems for what in the end "seems" like a simple thing. Thank you.

1) Prices have not been set yet. These have never been sold and I've had to source all parts and test (for over a year).

2) You are correct. The mist unit in the pictures above sits in that black float. This keeps it at the correct height. This allows you to use it in any size bucket, tho 5 gallon seems to be easiest to use and modify.

3) The fans also come from overseas, and are not sold here. The price of the kit will include these, and the power supply.

As for the final price, my costs change dramatically based upon how many are ordering and if the components are being shipped directly to you or not. Once I get a decent idea of interest, I'll go ahead and make a document showing the packages, prices and such.

I've put a lot of time into this, and it will take even more to set this up, but it is in our tortoises interest.

As I've tested and verified these components work and last, I'll over a 6 month warranty and support on these.

How many on board and how many more you need?

Looks like 4 people so far in this thread, need 10 to get the first set of discounts from the factory.

I live in Edmonton. You are quite close to me! :) I will be heading to Red Deer in August (22nd or 23rd) for a Reptile Show. You ever go to those?

Every once in a while! Some years have been better than others. Not a huge fan of snakes, which seem to be the dominate species at these shows lately.

I've only been to one Red Deer show, all the others I've gone to were here in Edmonton. This year will be the second Red Deer show for me. I agree, lots of snakes and insects it seems. I wish there were more tortoises and turtles being shown. Even more lizards would be nice.

I normally go to reptile shows just to browse, buy cactus pads, deli cups and some feeder insects. If this humidifier project kicks off by then, maybe we can meet up in person at the show and exchange the humidifier and money? It would be nice to meet you, as you put this all together and you have tortoises (which isn't very common where I am).

Sounds good! If not enough people pre-sign up, I'll still continue with the project. It just won't be as big of a priority and slightly higher cost.

I'll still be interested in the humidifier, even if the cost is a little higher. I think it'll be worth it. Thank you for creating this thread, :) I'll keep checking it for updates!

Maybe this will help drum up some more interest!

Definitely interested! I live in a very dry area, so a five gallon humidifier sounds like a good investment.
