Current setup - So I've made some more adjustments to the tank. I switched the reptile water and food "bowls" to very small terra cotta planter plates, added an asparagus fern, switched out the log hide for an inverted tub with a cut out, added a second thermometer with a hygrometer (I also use a digital temp gun as well) and completely covered the open top tank and lights with foil. The temps range from 80 to 95 with humidity 80 to 90. They go outside in the sun for minimum 20 minutes (if weather permits) and get soaked every other day for a minimum of 20 minutes.
Future setup - I purchased and cut lumber to make a 4x6' enclosure with a "tent" to hang the lights and CHE. My brother in law is going to make the upper structure. This setup will not be ready until this next weekend.
Update - Both tortoises are about 3.5" and were born in August. They are unusually small (according to this forum) at about 90g. They now eagerly eat chopped grasses and weeds (they were too shy/scared for the first few days), love to run around outside in the grass (in the 4x6' frame) and have had several firm bowel movements. One tortoise as gained 2g while the other has not gained/lost weight.
Question - I've only noticed 2 white deposits - is that unusual?
