Are you using a filter? Put a sponge pre-filter on the intake so that babies don't get sucked inside and make sure you have lots of plants to hide inside. The mommies will have a baby and turn around and eat it!

Oh I know! I have lots and lots of plants, I also have floating plants for them to hide in. Now I have 5 babies all together. About 7 months ago I had two babies who both turned out to be girls!

Oh man...just wait!

I started with 10 babies in a 125gallon turtle tank. They were freebies from Petsmart. Within no time (seriously) I had to remove over 200 guppies! The turtle wouldn't eat them (or if she did it didn't make a dent in the population). As I pulled them out, I counted them. Couldn't believe it, there were so many!
I also had a 125 goldfish tank so they went in there. Goldfish really are vacuum cleaners! ;) The guppies are now in check.

Me too. :( As a child we had them and it seemed like nothing would kill them and they breed like crazy. As an adult, it seems like all I do is kill them. :(
Me too!!! Now I just have 2 angelfish and a ram in my tank and can't find anything else I like enough to add after guppy casualty number 8.

Wooooohoooooo!!!!!!!! :)

as your female gets older so does the brood size. if you wanna see more fry more often, give her live food and 25% water changes with water slightly colder than the tank water. the colder water simulates a rainfall, and the promise of cleaner water which is a natural trigger to release the fry. :)

If I remember right a guppy's gestation period is 28 days, so before you know it your gonna have a serious colony going. :)

If you really want babies, you can purchase a breeding net for them. There's normally a trap where the live fry fall into as mama pops them out. They are safe down there so their mama and other fish cannot eat them.

I kept Java Moss in bottom corners of my tank and my babies hid there. As stated, their clutches get larger as they breed. They can also retain sperm from a mating that will last them up to numerous clutches without needing to mate for awhile. Good luck! Babies are really awesome, and guppies are wonderfully coloured :)

I like the "survival of the fittest" way of keeping babies, which sounds bad, but it helps keep down the number of babies too. Usually, mine never eat the babies, that I notice. :p

It's so fun, I love it! I have plenty of people who would love some of my babies if I become overpopulated, too.

I have a small 29 gallon guppy only tank that is on its about ninth generation of guppies. You want about three females per male for the health of the females. The males are "love" machines! You also want to toss in a fresh fish or two every so often to help out the gene pool.

Ooo, I didn't know the new fish thing! Good thing I added a new female recently, and that's what started all these babies. I have 3-4 females and two males.. I think I'll add another one or two after the babies grow a little more.
