Happy tort. I was looking through your threads. He is a transfered tortoise since you have had him. I feel he was very sad at the zoo. Doing a great job my man. Happy torts make happy keepers.

Yes, he is a way happier tortoise in many ways. He seems to always be happy and eager for his day! He is usually the first out of the barn and usually gets a drink of water and heads straight out to the far end of the field for his many hours of browsing. He is not shy, however seems to relish his space. Understandably, based on his past 20 +/- years contained in that small zoo enclosure getting harassed constantly by kids! We feel he has done remarkable here.

He is clean and has a proper diet with minimal stress. Well, he does show classic signs of dating stress, which girlfriend to hang with for the day, LOL!

I love your pics. I do wonder what you meant by being harassed by kids all day at the zoo. Did you mean that they were mean to him or just watching him? I have seven kids, I don't want my sulcatas feeling harassed by my kiddos. Anyways, your Alfa looks so happy, that first pic looks just like a huge grin on his face and that one at the zoo, looks so miserable. Good job. You are so good at what you do.Smile

Prior to our purchase we spend many hours and several days just observing the three males at the zoo. We saw people tapping, kicking, and one kid actually poked one of the other tortoises right in the eye. One of the keepers we befriended and she told us a lot, one being that they would host many kid events and allow them to ride the tortoises, etc. Just from observations and keeper testimony we concluded that the tortoises one display were consistently being harassed. I remember last year we went to Bush Gardens and a group of kids were actually climbing over into the enclosure kicking the aldabras. Here, they are at peace and not bothered. Alfa will take food from us, however really does not care for being scratched or touched. We contribute that with him being poked, etc. for so many years. He is coming around........!
