RE: True or false
Depends on the Tortoise. I think it just offers you a wonderful opportunity to educate them. Of course, I keep box turtles and not tortoises, but people are silly.

RE: True or false
After telling my hillbilly (I can say that!) Grandmother 45 times that Echo is a tortoise, NOT a turtle, I now passive aggressive her when she *southern draw* "How's yer turtle?" I reply sweetly "dry...really dry..."
![]() The first offense doesn't bother me, some where between the 4th and 45th I get annoyed! Haha. But in all seriousness, no, a lot of times people just don't know any better. I love teaching children the difference and watching them educate their parents and friends

RE: True or false
People can call them whatever they want as long as they leave them alone.
I'd much rather hear someone say "how is your turtle doing?" than "Gopher tortoises? Yea my cousin eats those things" (yes, I've actually heard that)

RE: True or false
Its doesn't bother me at all, its just a word. I don't correctly people on this one. It makes no difference, in the big scheme of things, whether someone calls my animals turtles or tortoises. We're all talking about the same creatures. No big deal.

RE: True or false
It doesn't really make sense since they are both the same amount of syllables but for some reason I think turtle is just easier to say. And not many people know the difference. It's just a lack of knowing. Which I don't expect people to know in the first place so I tell people I have a turtle. Sometimes to be fun I say I have a land turtle. Haha! People think that's a correct term!

RE: True or false
Well since "Water Turtles" require water to swallow their food and "Land Turtles" can eat food without being in water.
So I can see the term "Water turtle" and "Land turtle" being an appropriate term. 0.1.0 Three Toed Box Turtle (Cleopatra) - 23+ years old 0.1.0 Three toed box turtle, Crumpa, SHE was called Grampa.1.0.0 son 0.1.0 wife 1.1.0 Double Yellow Head Amazon Parrot 1.0.0 Nebelung cat 0.1.0 Tuxedo cat 2.0.0 Schipperke dogs |
