RE: Sulcataman new to forum
Well thank you everybody for being on the same page as me. Its nice to have others who agree on the same things. I am open to suggestions, if anyone has any. There are alot of people out there who think "soaking" or giving sulcatas a place to sit in water is a bad idea. It's only a bad idea if their environment is too moist and they don't have a place to dry out. And yes, I did get the big guy from Pete in Florida. I drove 17 hours down, loaded him up, and drove 17 hours home. No food or sleep for me for 2 days. Haha. It was well worth it. He is a rare sulcata to find for sale. As for the other 2, I have had them for 7 years. I rescued them separately from people that did not want to put the time and love into caring for them.

No grief here... they LOVE mud wallows!
Your pen in the pic.. is fine for one.. but two.. not going to do it.. mine is twice that size with tall gass they can hide in and hide from each other... Can you seed it with a pasture mix and let it grow?
How big is your yard? can you build a seperate pen?
What made me get into the Animal Line of Work? I was BORN this way!
4 Sulcatas
1 Russian
1 Desert Tortoise
2 dogs
3 cats
6 llamas
GOATS
1 cockatoo
1 husband-Gary

The big guy is living in that enclosure by himself. The other two, have their own enclosure. I am going to make the mud wallow for the smaller tortoises bigger. I had tall grass, but it doesn't last long. By May, they have eaten it down to the ground.

Your set-up kicks ass! Large enough for them to be comfortable and I really like the idea of backing your picket fence with railroad ties...and, yes, you must have a mud wallow...or shallow pond! KUDOS! Wink

...and welcome!

Thank you DeanS. I do allow them to roam the rest of the yard outside of the enclosure when I'm in the backyard working. I think they are happy. They don't try to escape and I gave them places to dig, so I don't have any trouble with them trying to escape.
