If so, will I need to add large mesh wire on the bottom to prevent escape?
Thanks.
I'm afraid of poisoning the thing with weeds.
I am unable to locate escarole or endive.
I will try turnips, kale and mustard again and just not feed him anything else until he eats it.
Picky beast.
Mine will not eat Collards, Mustard, Turnips, Kale, celery or Spinach.
Only Romaine and a few bites of carrot.
Not a chance with pellets-wet, dry, mixed.
I do sprinkle calcium on the Romaine.
Really need to come up with something.
Can it eat tomatoes or bananas?
Anything but Romaine. :)
It's not that deep and my tortoise has no problem climbing out. I can see that it could be a problem with a smaller tortoise or if you put too much water in it. I only use about 1/2" of water and it is a lot easier to clean out afterwards without sloshing. He is a messy thing . :)
Found this at Walmart. I was using a ceramic plant saucer, but this is deeper and much easier to remove and clean.
I put in with warm water every other day. "Turtle" loves his bath. :)
Think I finally understand. Thanks for all the patience. I think I was kinda "over engineering".
Granddaughter had a 60 watt nighttime incandescent heat bulb. The tortoise likes light, so I added the bulb I noted above.
I'm going to completely remove the UVB lamp on the right and replace...
There is no top.
Although my granddaughter mostly ignores it, my wife and I have become quite attached to it. It seems to respond to voice and eats from our fingers.
Feeding it romaine, celery, turnip leaves and kale. It will not eat pellets, but I do sprinkle calcium on the food.
Is this a...
You're of course, right. Turns out it is a heat bulb. Since it may have to stay in several days at a time, do I need a UVB bulb?
If so, should use both during the day?
It has a terra cotta dish large enough to get into.
The real habitat has the materials allowing him to dig in.
Had to make a temporary place for my granddaughter's Russian tortoise for cold days. She has an outdoor habitat for mild weather. We live near the Gulf Coast, so many winter days are warm here.
I'm using a purple UVB lamp bulb 12 hours during the day, nothing at night - house stays at 70...
