I would plant more eatible plants in the enclosure. Some grass beside the heatlamp, small tortoise love to hide in the grass. You can take grass patches from the garden. You can also put some spagnum moss in their hide to encrease the humidity there.

Yes all my hatchlings always hide in the plants or dig holes under the grass. The plants also give a good humidity for them and good foodsource so they can graze when they want. I grow plants on the side of their box and replace plants if they die or get eaten :-)

After hibernation if its Cold and snoe outside the tortoise have a Indoor enclosure with HID lamps, uv-light and Lightwave for Daylight. Sand and soil mix for substrate. I grow a lot of their food like dandelions, plantago etc.
