  • I've had a desert tortoise for 9 years, and he's always used his burrow. In the past two days he does not want to use it, even when the overnight low temp is 48 degrees. This morning I found him cold as ice from being out all night, so for tonight I have him in a box in the basement. Any ideas why the sudden change in behavior ?
There are pocket gophers in the enclosure, but I'm not sure they're in the burrow.

heating pad low for a couple hours to warm him up quick..shouldnt be that cold...inside..uva/uvb until it warms up..you need back up plan as the desert is sometimes unpredictable.

Possibly something else has been in it. Or going to it at night. He doesn't feel safe in it.
